Academy Student                                              
These are the weakest of all the ranks, although there are some exceptions. Zabuza, not even being graduated yet, slaughtered more than a hundred of that year's graduates. Gaara, as well, could kill any Chuunin and Jounin that tried to assassinate him at the age of six. Generally are being taught basic techniques, like Clones, Kawarimi, etc..

Genin                                                                  
Genin are academy student graduates. They demonstrated the ability to pass and are proficient at basic techniques, such as Bunshin no Jutsu. They are assigned to a Jounin, usually three genin to each Jounin. They are then allowed to do mundane and boring tasks, such as weeding, walking a rich man's dogs or finding a fat, rich woman's cat who had reason to flee it's master.

Chuunin                                                            
After participating in the Chuunin exam, a genin's intellect and strength are judged by the Kages and Lords that preside as judges. They are now qualified to lead a group of genins during extracurricular activities, such as the village being under attack. They are also sent out on solo or group missions. They mostly travel in groups of four on missions.

Special Jounin                                                   
A Jounin that specializes in a specific area of expertise. Morino Ibiki, for example, is head of the Konoha's Interrogation Unit, which is basically torture. Anko is a Special Jounin because of her familiarity with the recent Village of Sound, which Konoha has next to no information about. ANBU teams, which serve as police and assassination squads, are also Special Jounins.

Jounin                                                               
Chuunins who have shown extraordinary amounts of strength and intelligence are promoted to Jounin. This is a high ranking, and one is sent on more difficult missions than Chuunins, usually involving assassination or theft, or in some cases, information gathering. Jounins are also believed to be mature enough to handle a squad of genins and to train them.

ANBU                                                                
A specific devision of ninjas designed much like the royal guard of the Hokage. This group performs assasinations, escorts, and act as body guards as well for the current Hokage. Kakashi was once an ANBU member himself.

Missing-NINs                                                     
Ninjas who have abandoned their village and gone on the run. As a result, they are marked for death by their village's hunter-nins, who will hunt them ceaselessly until they either die or get their target.

Hunter-NINs                                                      
Ninjas who hunt down missing-nins to protect their village's secrets. They are also special Jounins. Haku is an example of a (former) hunter-nin.

Kage                                                                    
The ultimate warrior and leader of a particular village, in other words: the title of referring to the strongest in the village. What they say usually goes. Their power is only rivaled by other Kages.

Sai

Name: Sai

Sai was assigned to join Team Kakashi and assist in meeting with a Sasori’s spy who worked for Orochimaru (Kabuto who was supposed to be under a mind control technique). Danzou tasked him with a secret mission to gain Orochimaru’s trust, locate and assassinate Sasuke. Upon meeting his new teammates, in attempt to seem sociable, Sai questions Naruto’s manhood and insults Sasuke, which results in Sakura punching him. He tries to look more caring by smiling, although due to his obvious insincerity his teammates dislike it. While moving on to the meeting spot, Sai wonders why Naruto is loyal to a traitor like Sasuke, and Naruto responds to that by saying he's not a traitor, but rather a friend. After spending some time with Naruto, Sai becomes friendlier towards others and starts to appreciate bonds.

Having been orphaned as a child; Sai has been recruited into Root, a secret ANBU branch, where he was trained to be emotionless. In his early life, he became friends with another Root member, Shin, whom he eventually considered a brother. Sai was also a talented artist and had an art book in which he illustrated his ninja growth and feelings in one half, and his brother’s in the other. Later, Shin died due to an illness, which resulted in Sai completely shutting down his emotions. During this period, Sai has been sent on various highly-ranked missions, mostly involving assassination of foreign ninja. Even Danzou himself considers him the strongest of his generation.

Sai's most notable talent is his art, and he claims to have drawn thousands of pictures. His artistic talent is also the source of his main jutsu, known as the Super Beasts Imitation Picture, where he infuses his chakra with the ink to bring his drawings on a scroll to life. Sai is fairly skillful in taijutsu as well.

Hyuuga Neji

Hyuuga Neji is considered the strongest and most talented of all genin. He is a member of the Hyuuga clan and masters Hyuuga-style taijutsu, the most powerful Leaf Village taijutsu style. Neji is a true genius and he knows it all too well. He is very confident (maybe even too confident) of himself and thinks he knows everything. He strongly believes that destiny is something one cannot control; it is given to you at birth and not even hard work can change it. Fully confident of himself, Neji is able to mentally destroy his less-confident opponents just by talking to them. He is also Hyuuga Hinata's cousin.

On top of all this Neji really is an incredibly strong and talented ninja. The combination of the Byakugan, Hyuuga-style taijutsu and the opening point attacks is perfect, and the fact that Neji has already fully mastered those techniques makes him a genius among geniuses.
After getting defeated by Uzumaki Naruto in the chunnin exam's final round, Neji's point of view changes. In fact, Naruto proved to him that hard work can defeat a natural talent, and that faith is not predetermined.

Age 16

Hiiragi Kagami

Kagami's physique is average. She has long, purple hair with a dark purple ribbon tied into pig tails, and unlike Tsukasa, she has indigo colored sharp eyes. Kagami is also a bit egotistical, and is somewhat weak in common household chores such as cooking and cleaning. Kagami is constantly attempting to hide the fact that she has a deep sense of attachment to her friends. She also seems to take a twisted delight in mocking Konata's smaller-than-average physique, her lack of motivation and her tendency to be a troublemaker, which usually results in Konata becoming very defensive. Kagami is always talking about losing unwanted weight, once she loses a few kilograms she always seems to gain them back again in the blink of an eye, (all because of her eating habits), Konata always seems to make a joke out of it as well by offering Kagami a pocky stick or teasing her saying her internal food alarm clock is broken. Kagami likes reading light novels with some pictures unlike Konata, always reading manga. Kagami is a very good team leader as well and likes to get things done.

Kagami is Tsukasa's older twin sister and is occasionally referred to as "Kagamin" by Konata. In school, her grades are excellent because she studies very hard. When Kagami was in tenth grade she made it into Ryōō High School and was made the class president in her first year. Kagami always seems to be put in the same class as Misao Kusakabe and Ayano Minegishi instead. She has been in the same class as those two since seventh grade. She is always in a different class than Konata and Tsukasa, but she frequently comes to their class during lunch time to eat with them. Kagami is often shown wishing she could be in the same class as everyone else. Kagami chose the humanities course in her second year so that she could be with her friends, but she was separated into a different classroom; the same thing happened again in her third year.

Izumi Konata

Konata is a hardcore otaku, she loves anime and adult video games, due to her father's influence. He buys adult games for himself, so she is able to play and enjoy them. In fact, when she became eighteen, Konata was overjoyed, since she could now go buy and play ero-games legally. In the anime, Konata constantly refers to or parodies several popular games, anime, and manga (such as Yu-Gi-Oh!,Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuu'utsu and even DragonBall Z) to annoy Kagami. Her favorite franchise seems to be the Haruhi series, as she has many Haruhi figurines and decorations that makes her room, once went to the Suzumiya Haruhi no Gekisō with her friends, and has "Hare Hare Yukai" and "Koi no Mikuru Densetsu" as her ringtones.

Despite her personality Konata can be smart, but she hates studying; thus her grades are a bit uneasy. However, she is an expert in pulling an "all-nighter," frequently (if not always) getting the same grades as those who studied for a week. In contrast to her studying habits, she loves video games, to the extent that she can completely memorize the answers on trivia-based games. Occasionally she feels the pressure and thinks about studying, but she never gets round to doing it.

Konata likes playing MMORPG's with her teacher Ms. Kuroi. She often plays late into the night, hence why she tends to fall asleep in class, which makes her a frequent victim to her homeroom teacher, Nanako Kuroi. Ironically, Ms. Kuroi was also part of Konata's team in the same game and constantly nags her online and in real life about her grades and homework.

Konata lives with her father Sojiro Izumi; her mother, Kanata Izumi, died shortly after she was born. When she graduated to 10th grade (In Japan: 1st grade of High School) and made it into Ryōō High School, she met Tsukasa Hiiragi, Kagami Hiiragi, and Miyuki Takara. In order to fund her interests, Konata had a part-time job at a cosplay cafe in Akihabara where she cosplays Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. A little later in the series, a girl called Yutaka Kobayakawa, Konata's cousin, joins the Izumi's in their household. Starting from the episode I Can't Suddenly Change, Konata and her friends enter their final year in high school. During the beginning of the school year Konata meets a new girl at her job called, Patricia Martin, who is a transfer student from America. During the episode The Yonder Here, Konata learns more about her mother Kanata from Sojiro. Konata and Sojiro prepare to take a picture; Kanata joins in with them, but appears as a shadow in the actual picture. Konata and Sojiro review the picture and are highly shocked and fear that they are cursed. In To Be Decided, Konata and the rest of the main cast take place in cheer leading session for the school's cultural festival.

Lucky Star

Lucky Star is mainly about 4 girls going to school and their lives. There is a lot of comedy and things about  friendship.

Lucky Star began as a manga by Kagami Yoshimizu. The series centers on four main characters that are in their first year of high school: Konata Izumi, Kagami Hiiragi, Tsukasa Hiiragi, and Miyuki Takara.

Alice

In her human form, she has long dark brown hair with two side plaits and purple eyes. She wears a red coat with a white diamond design and a black skirt and laced up white boots. When she is in her released form, she appears as a rabbit with black fur, red pupils, and fangs who wields a giant scythe and wears the same clothes as she wears in her human form, except that she wears black pants instead of a skirt. Alice's personality appears to be cold and rude at the start, especially to Gilbert. Alice first appears as a Chain that Oz forms a contract with in the Abyss.

Alice's goal is to find her lost memories, which play a major role in the story. She is hotheaded, loud spoken and says what she thinks without regard to the consequences. Due to her short temper, when talking she is energetically aggressive with people she knows, a special mention goes to her usual verbal attacks on Gilbert. Despite this, she also has a soft side, especially when Oz is involved. She hates when Oz leaves her alone, but to hide it she usually mentions that he is her manservant and shouldn't leave her alone, or just hits him and says "Shut up". Through the series it is implied that she has started developing feelings for Oz, although it is unknown if these develop from her previous connection to Jack or not. It has been revealed that Alice was actually a human that was killed 100 years ago during the Tragedy of Sabrie.
She has a huge appetite and loves meat especially. She often argues with Gilbert and calls him "Seaweed Head"; in retaliation, Gilbert calls her "Stupid Rabbit".
In episode 22, when the story centers on Alice and Will, It is shown that Alice's personality changes. When Alice chooses to wear light colored dresses, and her personality gentle and afraid, she is the Intention of the Abyss. When wearing dark colored dresses, and her atmosphere is dark, she is Alice The B-Rabbit.

Gaara Of The Desert

Born as an experiment from the Hidden Sand Village, Gaara was combined with the spirit of a demonic sand priest known as Shukaku, not unlike Naruto and the Nine Tails. Gaara grew up without knowing love. For a long time he thought being spoiled equals love, but when he met Rock Lee that opinion changed. Unfortunately, Gaara became unstable around the age of six years. Consequently, his father Kazakage, ordered numerous assassination attempts upon him, all failing miserably. This betrayal caused Gaara to become hateful and deeply suspicious of everyone, including his siblings, who he regarded as "lumps of meat linked together by hatred and murderous intent."

The tattoo on Gaara's forehead means love, which combined with his name means, "I Love Death". Since he only feels alive when he kills, he believes that killing is his reason for being. The tattoo was put on Gaara's head by Gaara himself after his abilities killed Yashamaru. Yashamaru, being the one that raised Gaara, and the only one that seemed to care for him.

Although Gaara's father asked Yashamaru to kill Gaara, Yashamaru says she had willingly accepted the mission. Having never truly loved Gaara, hoping that killing him would avenge the death of her sister. Yashamaru eventually detonates herself with explosive tags covering her body, with her last words being "please die". Gaara survived the blast without even being injured, losing the only person he thought cared for him, losing his fate in bonds and love.

When we take a look at Naruto Shippuuden we notice Gaara has undergone some personality changes. His relationship to his siblings has become somewhat normal. He has come to consider Kankuro and Temari as his brother and sister where he used to threaten to kill them if they got in his way. He talks to Kankuro about his problems and dreams.

In a conversation Gaara has with Kankuro, Gaara says: "In order to escape a path of loneliness, I have no choice to but to work hard and make my own path. If I do that, then someday... someday I can be like him. That's why as a shinobi of the Sand I'll aim to be the Kazekage. So I can live a life connected to my village. I want to work hard so that other will accept my existence." It's obvious that Naruto inspired Gaara to question his bonds with other people. Suffering, sadness and joy - He want to be able to share it with another person, he want his existence to be necessary to other people, not as a weapon to be feared but as the Hidden Sand's Kazekage. He eventually follows up his dad as the Fifth Kazekage and really acts as the villager's protector as seen in his fight with Deidara. The villagers also have come to respect Gaara, and the younger females of the village even like Gaara. In the beginning of Shippuuden Gaara fulfills his role as the village's Kazekage, but gets taken by Akatsuki doing so. Gaara apparently dies from having Shukaku extracted from him by Akatsuki, and later on Chiyo sacrifices herself to bring him back to life.

Xerxes Break

Break is a member of Pandora and a servant of the Rainsworth household. Like Sharon, Break's appearance did not change from the ten year gap between Oz entering and escaping from the Abyss, on account of having a legal contract with the Mad Hatter. Break is often seen with a doll on his shoulder, which he calls Emily. He adores sweets and cakes. He has short white hair and wine-red eyes. He usually carries a sword disguised as a cane. Break has no left eye, due to it being taken by the Intention Of The Abyss and given to the Cheshire Cat.

From the outside, Break seems like a carefree character, never serious and always smiling, with a weak spot for all kinds of sweets and cakes. Sometimes he even eats sugar cubes that he always brings along with him. When needs be, however, Break can also be sinister and dangerous. Reim tells Oz that Break has not always been the way he is now. Before, after losing his eye and for a short while after, he was a bitter and angry person, never smiling. However, through the kindness of Shelly, Sharon's mother, he began to open up. He has sworn absolute loyalty to Shelly. Break's true motive is to find the truth behind what happened 100 years ago. He hates Vincent with a passion, due to him ordering Echo to attack Sharon, who afterwards was poisoned by Vincent. In Retrace 42, it is shown that Break has become blind. However, he can still differentiate different objects placed in front of him, but not people's faces. He states that he will lose that ability soon.

He seems to be very protective of Sharon. He stated once that he sees Sharon as a daughter, however, Cheryl Rainsworth sees it more as a brother-sister relationship, since Sharon grew up with Break looking after her. He still looks after and worries about her throughout the series even if she's already old enough to do things on her own. There are times when he doesn't mention to her where he's going or the condition of his health, so as not to make her worry; Sharon gets mad when he does this. Break didn't tell Sharon at once about his blindness, fearing it would worry her too much. In the end he finally does tell her and found Sharon's reaction to be positive and supportive of Break. At this point, Break starts to realize that Sharon isn't a young girl anymore, but a growing woman.

Kakashi is the sensei of Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke. He is known as "the Copy Ninja Kakashi" or "Sharingan Kakashi" all over the world, and it is rumored that he has memorized over 1000 jutsu. At first glance you would never guess Kakashi is a very powerful jounin. He's very relaxed and sometimes even somewhat slow. He also loves to read his romantic flirting book "Flirting Paradise". However, in this case, appearances can be deceiving. Kakashi is known throughout the world as a formidable adversary and he was an apprentice of the Fourth Hokage, Namikaze Minato. He was also a part of the Konoha ANBU force, which he left for unknown reasons.

Kakashi is a very good but strict teacher. Prior to Naruto's team, he had never allowed any of the teams he was to teach become genins. He uses the same teaching methods the Third and Fourth Hokages used, and he emphasizes teamwork above all else. He feels that someone who does not understand teamwork is not worthy of becoming a ninja.

Kakashi has the Sharingan implanted in his left eye. Not long after becoming a jounin, at the age of 13, Kakashi was assigned to lead his teammates, Uchiha Obito and Rin on a mission. During the mission Obito sacrificed himself to save Kakashi from being crushed by a falling boulder. That's when he told Rin to implant his Sharingan into Kakashi's left eye, because he knew that he would die anyway.

The Sharingan gives Kakashi a huge advantage in battle. He is able to read and copy his opponents moves with it. Almost all of Kakashi's moves are copied from other ninjas. The only exception is the Chidori. The Chidori or "Lightning Edge" as Kakashi nicknamed it, is Kakashi's sole original technique.

During the timeskip, Kakashi developed his very own Mangekyou Sharingan, greatly improving the normal Sharingan he had until then. It enables him to perform a special jutsu, Kamui, which sucks everything within a very small area and sends it to another dimension. We saw Kakashi putting his new Mangekyou Sharingan's Kamui ability to the test for the first time in Shippuuden, in the battle against Deidara, where he only managed to remove his arm, even though he aimed for the head.

Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts is about a boy named Oz Vessalius who is heir to the Vessalius dukedom. He has just turned 15 and his all his life he has been rich and carefree. He falls into the dreaded Abyss and he becomes the blood stained black rabbit's contractor in order to get out. Unfortunately, he is an illegal contractor and that means that he will only get a certain amount of time left before he dies from the contraction.

Naruto

In the Anime and Manga ongoing Naruto series, the plot tells the story of a young boy named Uzumaki Naruto, Konoha's #1 unpredictable ninja, in other words, he is a prankster. He has a dream about becoming Konoha's Hokage, the leader of his village and the strongest of them all.

   Shippuden is another Naruto series that takes place about 2 years later.
